King Edward was one of the fleet of four fast ferries operated by the Watsons Bay & South Shore Ferry Company up until 1920 when the company was sold to Sydney Ferries Ltd. These vessels were somewhat different to the other harbour ferries with their higher bows and faster speed.

She was laid up in 1932, yet another of the many ferries made redundant by the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Her engines were removed and sold in 1935 and five years later her remains were broken up.
