Narrabeen II was built as a wooden steamship - unusual at the time for a vessel that was to be used on the outer harbour. Until 1928 she operated as a cargo vessel for the Port Jackson company. In 1926 she was fitted with passenger accomodation. This would indicate that she either did operate as a passenger carrying ferry or was perhaps held as a spare boat.

In 1928 she was sold to Melbourne concerns. Her new owners converted her to diesel operation and she was renamed to MV Merilyn.

She was wrecked on November 24th, 1958.
